How fast can you fix my instrument?
Most routine repairs can usually be completed within 2 or 3 business days. Turnarounds on repads or other major repairs will be provided along with the estimate.
Only very simple repairs can sometimes be handled in a single visit. Some of these include: pull stuck trumpet mouthpiece or slide, woodwind regulation (provided no pads or corks need replacement), replace a string (violin, viola, cello, guitar) and re-tune.
Loaner instruments may be available.
Clarinet and Saxophone Repairs and Repads
The single reed instruments are a specialty. Repairs from simple adjustments all the way up to a full repad are available.
Flute Repairs
All repairs for student grade closed-hole flutes are welcome. Basic repairs and regulations on intermediate and professional level open-hole flutes are also available, but please contact us or make an appointment for a consultation.
Oboe and Bassoon Repairs
For the double reed instruments, anything short of a full repad or major restoration of an instrument is possible.
Trumpet and Baritone Repairs and Cleanings
We are happy to provide service on any student to intermediate level piston valve brass instrument. Issues of sluggish valves and sticking slides can usually be addressed with a chemical cleaning. Regular yearly cleaning is a must for any brass instrument. We are able to provide basic repairs such as cleaning, mouthpiece or slide pulling, valve alignments, single brace soldering, and more.
French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, and all other Brasswinds
Rotary valve instruments and Trombone handslide assemblies require special tools and techniques. There is no better place in the area for high end brass instrument needs than Brass Arts Unlimited. They are a professional French Horn and Brass Specialty shop.
Violin, Viola, and Cello Repairs and String Replacements
We can handle simple repairs for all instruments that do not involve disassembly of the body of the instrument. We can replace: strings, fine tuners, tailpieces, tailguts, pegs, bridges, soundposts. We are able to reglue fingerboards or glue and clamp simple cracks or separations of seams. For bow repair or rehairing, we suggest Tanaka Bows.
Guitars
We think it would be quite silly to go anywhere around here other than Guitars of Pikesville.
All Other Instruments
Basically if you have any acoustic instrument (non-electric) that isn’t making noise like it should, we are happy to look at it and provide a free consultation and estimate. We have had experience fixing a wide variety of instruments including: autoharps, recorders, custom or vintage wind and brass instruments, harmonicas, percussion instruments, xylophones and mallet instruments, and more. If we can’t fix it, then we’ll do our best to refer you to somebody who can!
Instrument Pick-Up
When picking up your repair, we request that you plan to have it play-tested to make sure that the repairs and regulation were completed to the player’s satisfaction, touch, and technique. Since the warranty period begins when the repairs are completed, instruments must also be picked up in a timely manner to get the full advantage of the 90-day warranty period.
