A firm grasp of music theory is one of the best tools any musician can have. Although no previous experience with music is required, a basic understanding of note-reading for both treble and bass clef will be very helpful.

This course will cover:

Students will compose a short piece of piano music as their final project in this class.

Meets: Once per week over 12 weeks for 60 minutes. Starts September 13th.

Materials (provided): Textbook, Practical Theory: Complete by Sandy Feldstein, folder, manuscript paper, supplemental handouts.

Students will learn basics of music by studying how to play the standard soprano “baroque” recorder. Class will focus on learning note reading and fingering for the lower register of the recorder. Music theory and general sound concepts will be introduced. Ensemble playing will be explored with duets and trios.

This course will cover:

The end goal is for students to be able to play (and sightread!!) simple melodies on the treble clef.
